RISK - Is All It's Cracked Up To Be
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but, rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally
worn out, and loudly proclaiming, Wow!" Author Unknown
Risk is not taking chances recklessly. It's evaluating our capabilities and options and, then, judiciously pushing our boundaries.
Risk is trying something new, knowing full-well that we very well might end up with egg on our face.
Successful marketers and sales people know this is true.
Every day they start anew with a clean slate knowing that they can expect the vast majority of their efforts to earn them a resounding "No". But they forge forward, knowing that the "Yes" will eventually come for those who persist.
Creative people in all media know well the process of trial and error...and taking chances. They work diligently experimenting, and discarding, the vast majority of their work. They keep working to find a way to get their work a bit closer to the perfection they see in their mind's eye.
Bill Cosby, speaking of parenting said: "If the new American father feels bewildered and even defeated, let him take comfort from the fact that whatever he does in any fathering situation has a fifty percent chance of being right."
There are no guarantees in life...or in business. But when all is said and done, it's all in how you run the race.
Ask any contestant in the Olympics. They know that very few will win, they each have a 50-50 chance. Why do they do that? For the "Wow"!
